Dark Age of Camelot 2024

What even is Dark Age of Camelot?

Dark age of Camelot was released back in 2001, round about the same time as Ever Quest, Ultima online and Asherons call. It was one of the founding fathers of MMORPGs. Arguably these were considered the building blocks for modern day MMORPGs

Dark Age of Camelot or DAOC for short, was a PVP centric game developed by mythic studios, which was a combination of two former studios: Adventures Unlimited Software Inc, headed by Mark Jacobs and Interesting Systems Inc, which was founded by a few people, but one name in particular might stand out, and that is of course, Matt Firor , the current head of the Elder Scrolls Online. ( I wont say anymore about ESO otherwise I’ll be here all day ranting about it being an over monetised piece of … which is basically as deep as a mobile game…maybe I should review ESO and tell them what I really think… Oh wait I’ve already done that… Ok i’m just rambling now)  But umm yes, ESO was influenced by this title, some might even say it was the spiritual successor.

Despite the age of the game, it is still free to play thanks to Broadsword Studios.

Why play it now?

In the modern MMO scene, there aren’t many titles that are brave enough to focus all their efforts around PVP. Arguablly those who do, see very little success and some even go bankrupt.

With this in mind, I decided to jump into Dark Ages of Camelot and see what why it was referred to by many, as the best PVP MMO ever created.

Furthermore is it still popular and what ever happened to the proposed sequel, Camelot Unchained?
