Monster Hunter Wilds Heavy Bowgun Juggernaut Build
Juggernaut Build

How it works?
Monster Hunter Wilds has made us an unstoppable juggernaut with a heavy bowgun build capable of power clashing with titans. The juggernaut heavy bowgun build is Capable of dishing out frequent powerful wyvernheart machine gun DPS while still maintaining high defense, insane healing and high critical strike chance, and the ability to heal yourself via wounds/focus strikes.
This build prioritizes tankiness and survivability over speed run clear times whilst also having good damage as we feel like a true juggernaut pushing the front line gunning enemies down from range whilst also shrugging off incoming attacks.
Weapon Selection
Hands down the best bowgun for a wyvernheart build like ours is the new heavy bowgun Mountainous roar from the new monster introduced in title Update 1 ‘Mitsuzune’ This bowgun in my opinion is more valuable than any non elemental focused heavy bowgun and is the best for raw bowgun damage/wyvernheart HBG builds. That’s because we have access to pierce 3 with SIX shots which is insane. This means more hits which means our special ammo meter will fill insanely fast and there’s more constant dps and less reloading.
The downside of the Mountainous Roar is we dont really use any of its built in weapon skills. One gives you more affinity if you just so happen to be wet and the other favors elemental ammo which other guns already do better. Even without usable perks this gun still somehow outshine the rest. Whats also great is that we have Ignition mode 2 for even stronger machine gun / wyvernheart ammo. I know its tempting to go for ignition recovery, but its better to get more damage from the ammo and the recovery shaved off here isnt good at all. Speaking of shaving off special ammo recovery time, we have a focus 3 jewel which refills our meter 15% faster. This is a complete flex spot and honestly its overkill. I tested it and it’ll still take you about the same amount of shots to fill the meter with or without it, but assuming you’re going to be blocking, drawing aggro, dodging and not have 100% uptime on shots then its decent. Better options include going critical boost 4, a pierce jewel, or what i like for some zoh shia runs, is a guard decoration 3 for less stamina consumption on block.
Alternative Weapons
Now lets talk alternative weapons . A good alternative if you cant get this is still the steel assault which features pierce 2 ammo in a 6 round magazine. Besides steel assault, one of my favorite heavy bowguns is the Gravios heavy bowgun. Now this only gets pierce 2 in a four round magazine, BUT it has ridiculously high raw damage and has its main attraction of giving us 30 more defense which is insane. Because we are already using the highest defense armor and a lot of defense decorations. This comes with guard up level 3 which is niche but very good in some fights. Now whats the drawback you ask. Negative 15% affinity which will like literally never be an issue because of the high crit decorations we have. Either way, you just want the best pierce bowgun and I highly recommend those. Especially the mountainous roar as it’ll get you your wyvernheart fast and come on thats the whole theme of the build. Fell free to use your favorite artian HBG, but it wont be as fast on special ammo.
Armor and set bonuses
We are using 2 pieces of THE ZOH sHIA SET WHICH HONESTLY HAS BECOME MY FAVORITE 2 piece set. Zoh Shia’s Pulse allows us to continuously regenerate health by just existing. This passive health regen is amazing over the course of a battle. On its own the two piece isnt much, but were combining it with RECOVERY UP skill that’ll boost the heal rate even higher. More on that in the skills section. This passive healing is great combined with our next set bonus Guardian Arkvelds Vitality. This allows us to heal when we destroy a foe’s wound. And even at a 2 piece bonus, this heal is huge on our build. I recommend destroying the enemy wounds through natural shooting damage or leaving it to a teammate as heavy bowgun’s focus strike isnt that great. However what is good about the focus strike it is that its ranged and precise of course. So if you’re low on health or the the wound is in an awkward spot on a tall monster your melee friends cant reach anyways, you can focus strike from a distance and heal that way.
You then have the option of the rocksteady mantle which gives insane mitigation, roar immunity and knock back immunity. You basically become invulnerable. However for more machine gunning and damage u can go with the corrupted mantle. This will tick at your health but Zoh set helps u nullify that. It refills about half your special ammo meter on equip as well so its cool to dump your wyvern heart then equip this for an onslaught of damage. Remember power clashes refill your meter too.
